Fair
questions

The things people actually ask before handing over their books. Something else on your mind? Ask directly.

How much does a bookkeeper cost compared to a CPA?

CPA firms bill $150 to $400 an hour, and bookkeeping is their most junior work at their highest markup. Jema charges flat monthly rates: you know the price before the month starts. Your CPA keeps doing what only a CPA should, which is taxes and strategy.

Do I need a bookkeeper or an accountant?

Usually both, but not at the same price. A bookkeeper keeps your records accurate all year. An accountant uses those clean records to file taxes and advise. A year-round bookkeeper plus a CPA at tax time is the cheapest sound setup for most small businesses.

Do you work remotely or in person?

Both. Most work happens securely through QuickBooks Online and read-only bank feeds. In Lincoln, St. Charles, and Pike counties, pickup, drop-off, and sit-down reviews are on the table too.

What software do you use?

QuickBooks Online, as an Intuit-certified user. Not on QuickBooks? Setup and migration are part of the job. On spreadsheets or a shoebox? Everyone starts somewhere.
